No MS Dhoni In India’s ODI Squad For West Indies Series, Virat Kohli To Lead

There was no MS Dhoni in India’s ODI squad for the series against West Indies as the five-member selection panel announced the squad for the three ODIs against West Indies. Reports had suggested that Dhoni would be missing the series (to take rest) and MSK Prasad confirmed the news in the press conference.

With no MS Dhoni in the team, Rishabh Pant will oversee the wicketkeeping duties on a full-time basis for the first time his ODI career. For now, there is now news regarding MS Dhoni’s retirement and confirmation regarding it is expected before the start of the home season in the month of September.

A fully-fit Shikhar Dhawan made his comeback to the ODI side after missing a major part of World Cup 2019. The first-choice opener had suffered a fractured thumb during the match against Australia. He was later ruled out of the tournament and was replaced by Rishabh Pant.

Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey have returned to the ODI fold after World Cup. The duo has already played for India in limited-overs cricket but wasn’t given many chances on the road to World Cup. With India still searching for stong middle-order batsmen, both the players are expected to be given fair chances.

Dinesh Karthik, who was a part of the World Cup squad, was dropped while Kedar Jadhav retained his place.

Delhi pacer Navdeep Saini is the new face in the ODI squad. The right-arm pacer was on the standby list for World Cup and stayed with the team till the final. He was expected to be named in the squad and looks set to share the new ball responsibility with Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Jasprit Bumrah has been rested after being on the road for a long time. He will be returning to the squad for two Test matches.

The three ODIs of the series will be played on August 8, 11 and 14 in Guyana and Trinidad (las two ODIs in Trinidad) respectively.
