Former India captain MS Dhoni does not seem to have a comeback plan for now as he has not been named in the Jharkhand’s squad for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. It was expected that Dhoni might turn up for his state team if he wants to make a comeback for the West Indies series as he hasn’t played any form of cricket since World Cup 2019.
Dhoni does not play the first-class format and if named in the squad for West Indies series, he will be selected without playing any competitive cricket.
Ishan Kishan, who recently led the team in Vijay Hazare Trophy, will continue to perform captaincy duties. In the absence of Dhoni, he also has a chance to earn India call-up and good performances in the domestic circuit can see him get selected in the national side.
Recently, Sanju Samson earned a recall to the national side, after four years, based on his performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Jharkhand’s squad includes experienced Saurabh Tiwary, Varun Aaron, Rahul Shukla and youngster Monu Kumar,
Shahbaz Nadeem, who recently made his Test debut against South Africa, will lead the spin attack. Former India U-19 cricketers Anukul Roy and Virat Singh are also a part of the tam.
Jahrkkahdn’s squad: Ishan Kishan (Captain), Varun Aaron, Anand Singh, Supriyo Chakraborty, Kumar Deobrat, Monu Kumar, SHahbaz Nadeem, Nazim Siddiqui, Anukul Roy, Rahul Shukla, Vivekanand Tiwari, Saurabh Tiwary, Utkarsh Singh, Virat Singh.
Shubman Gill named in Punjab squad –
India batsman Shubman Gill will play few matches for Punjab in Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy before joining the Test squad for the Bangladesh series. Gill had to miss the Vijay Hazare Trophy but is playing the Deodhar Trophy.
Gill is expected to play three T20s before joining the Test squad.
Mandeep Singh will continue to lead Punjab in the T20 tournament. Under him, Punjab made it to the quarter-final of Vijay Hazare Trophy but missed out a place in semi-final due to rain against Tamil Nadu.
