Unlike Suresh Raina, former Indian captain MS Dhoni is not taking a u-turn from international retirement to feature in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 for Jharkhand. This means he will be playing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 without a proper match.
After being unavailable from international cricket for over one year, MS Dhoni retired on August 15 ahead of the IPL 2020. It was deemed that the 13th edition of the IPL might be his last stint in cricket. But the wicketkeeper-batsman denied any such rumours after commentator Danny Morrison had asked Dhoni whether he would be donning the yellow jersey again or not before their final match. His answer was ” Definitely Not.”
But MS Dhoni had a disappointing and a forgetful one IPL. Under his captaincy, CSK didn’t qualify for the first time in the playoffs and even finished as the second last in the points table. His own performance was under scrutiny after he was struggling to finish the game like he used to.
The reason for his degrading performance was that he didn’t get enough matches ahead of the IPL to get back into the groove. And similarly, it will be the case in the next season.
No MS Dhoni in the Jharkhand team for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy:
As he has not decided to come out from retirement, he will not be playing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy next year which would have helped him to perform
Former India cricketer Suresh Raina meanwhile, announced on social media last week that he will be playing representing Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. Raina had retired on the same day as Dhoni but he missed playing in the IPL for CSK due to “personal reasons”.
