Waqar Younis, former Pakistan captain has replied indirectly to Sourav Ganguly, the ex-BCCI president after he had said that the hype of the India vs Pakistan games has gone down in recent times because India has been beating Pakistan lately in one-sided contests.
India and Pakistan only clash in ICC and ACC events with their bilateral connections stopping in 2012. Since then, India has been at the top when it comes to win-loss ratio as they defeated Pakistan in the 2014 T20 World Cup, 2013 Champions Trophy, the 2015 World Cup, the 2016 T20 World Cup, the 2019 World Cup, and most recently in 2022 T20 World Cup.
On the other hand, Pakistan has never defeated India in ODI World Cups thus far, while have defeated them only once in T20 World Cup 2021. However, one of their biggest wins over their rivals was the 180-run victory in the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy.
“There is a lot of hype in this match but the quality has not been that good for a long time because India kept on winning one-sided. Pakistan probably defeated India for the first time in the T20 World Cup in Dubai,” Ganguly had said.
“I Don’t Want To Comment On That,” Waqar Younis
Meanwhile, while speaking at the unveiling of the Asia cup 2023 schedule in Lahore on Wednesday, Waqar Younis chose to not directly react to the statement but insisted it “doesn’t matter” who says what, for the magnitude of an India-Pakistan clash surpasses any other game.
“I don’t want to comment on that. I feel we have had good games. The match that Pakistan won was pretty one-sided (in 2021 T20 WC). But the ones we lost were pretty close as well. So, you can say anything you want, the matches between India and Pakistan are the biggest in the world. When the scale of the game is that big, no one’s comments really matter,” the former Pakistan captain further added in a video posted by paktv.tv.
Before the World Cup this year, India and Pakistan will meet in the Asia Cup on September 2, and will renew their rivalry in the Super Four stage of the tournament, given both sides qualify.
