Somewhere in the windy isles of Ireland a decade ago, there stood a shy young kid in the Indian dressing room, rubbing shoulders with his childhood heroes and role models.
Once he was handed his international cap, several pundits termed him as the player to watch out for in the near future. Through the next decade, that shy and humble youngster, who had just made his debut, went through a career full of crests and troughs.
It might have taken him a while to get going in international cricket, but once he set about his business, there was absolutely no stopping him. Today, he averages the most for an ODI opener and has shattered multiple ODI records with his sheer destruction and devastation.
The person is none other than India’s very own Hitman, Rohit Sharma. It’s been a while now since Rohit made his international debut against Ireland, but along with him, he brought an infectious charm.
In the early half of his career, the Mumbai lad was often termed as full of talent, but very rarely could fans witness that talent transforms into actual performances. Then in mid-2013, came a time when he was asked to open the innings in ODI’s, and from there on, there wasn’t any looking back.
Reflecting on his own journey in international cricket which completed ten years recently, the elegant Indian opener shared an image on Instagram, depicting his India colours from 2007 and 2017. Along with it, Sharma captioned the image,
“Colours have changed but passion hasn’t ?”
One can definitely say that the passion always seems to be on the rise for Sharma, given his mind boggling displays in limited overs. Statistically, he remains one of the most successful openers of all time, and now, only the time to stamp his authority further remains.
