Out-of-favour Indian opener, Prithvi Shaw is not thinking too much about the national team selections as he wants to enjoy his with Northamptonshire in English One-Day Cup. The 23-year-old scored a brilliant 244 runs off 153 balls to register his second double-hundred in List A cricket.

The right-handed opener made his debut in the senior team in the same year after winning the junior World Cup for India and has represented Men in Blue in all formats, but could not keep his spot in the side due to his inconsistent form and high competition in the team.

Speaking to the media, Prithvi Shaw is happy with the experience of playing for Northamptonshire and said that he is not thinking of the Indian team selections as he wants to have a good time playing for the team in the One-day Cup and added that the luck was on his side, so it helped him to go to score big runs for his team.

“Definitely Experience for sure. Not really thinking what the Indian selectors may be thinking, but I just want to have a good time here, have a good time with the players over here and the support staff. Northamptonshire have given me this opportunity… they’re really looking after me. I’m really enjoying it.

“The sun was out, it was kind of like Indian weather today so it was really looking good. You know when an inside edge doesn’t get me out, that means this day is for me. You have to be lucky sometimes, so I think this was a day for me. I didn’t look back after that,” Prithvi Shaw said.

Prithvi Shaw’s 244 runs off 153 balls against Somerset helped his team set a massive total of 415 for the loss of eight wickets in 50 overs, which helped them win the match by 87 runs to register their second win in the league stage.

I Always Try And Win Matches For The Team – Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw said that he is aware of his highest List A cricket score while batting for Northamptonshire, as he spoke to his batting partner about it in the middle and asserted that he always tries to win the matches for his team and wants to continue his same form going forward in the tournament.

“The 227 was in my head, to be honest. I spoke to Whitey [Whiteman] when he was there and I told him it’s 227, my highest score. But it was a good team effort all around.

“I always try and win matches for the team and I’m the kind of player who puts my team first and then myself. If scoring like this can help my team to win, then I should continue this,” Prithvi Shaw added.

In the last couple of seasons in IPL, Shaw could replicate his good performance as before as it looked like he lost all his form and confidence in the cash-rich league. If the youngster can find his consistency and form at the highest level, he can be in the race to make it into the Indian team in the future.
