The untimely injury has put wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha many folds back, and the Indian National Cricket team have witnessed the emergence of Rishabh Pant as the premier Test gloveman. However, now that Saha has attained full fitness, he has admitted that he is not suffering from any insecurity or neither he has any competition with him.
Meanwhile, Wriddhiman Saha has returned to the cricket field for Bengal in the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy after a long injury lay off. He last played in the qualifiers of the Indian Premier League for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. During the domestic T20 campaign, Saha has already smacked a hundred along with two half-centuries giving indications that Saha is ready to take back his spot. But, he said that he has no feeling of insecurity with the emergence of Rishabh Pant. The Bengal cricketer also added that his full focus is to make a strong comeback.
“Not at all. I was not insecure. Being a sportsman you always run the risk of getting injured. The aim was to be fully fit and return stronger,” Saha said.
No competition with Pant
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant has consistently scored runs including centuries in England and Australia in his short Test career. However, he needs to work on his wicket-keeping skills feels many former cricketers. Wriddhiman Saha, who has scored 1164 runs in 32 Tests with three hundreds and an average of 30.63 pointed out that there is no competition with the young wicket-keeper.
Wriddhiman Saha’s sole focus lies on scoring as many runs and earn back his India spot. He will next play in the Indian Premier League for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. A technically sound wicket-keeper who can hit the ball, Saha will be desperate to make this opportunity count.
“I was out with an injury. Rishabh grabbed his chance and scored runs on a consistent basis. Now my aim is to get back to form and try to make a comeback in the Indian line-up. That’s purely my focus and I have stressed before and I want to make it clear that there is no competition with Rishabh,” he concluded.
