Not The Time For Clash, India Need Kohli And Kumble Together, Says Harbhajan Singh

Calling both Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble ‘matured individuals’, India’s veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh feels that Team India need them together for its betterment.

India’s ongoing ICC Champions Trophy has been marred by rumours of an alleged rift between the skipper and the coach and although Kohli has brushed aside all the reports, speculations are still rife that not everything is fine between the duo.

However, Harbhajan has urged both Kohli and Kumble to concentrate solely on cricket. With the Indian team currently in England to defend its ICC Champions Trophy title, the Turbanator has said the duo should leave behind all the controversies to focus on the tournament.

“I have known Kumble for so many years and he is the most ideal man,” Harbhajan told India Today. “I always go to him whenever I need any advice. He has interest if Indian cricket is on his mind and I know Virat as well. Both are very matured individuals.

“I don’t think Virat or Kumble will have any problems with each other. If people like Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman have spoken to them, then it’s the best. This is not the time for any clash and the team needs them together. Cricket should remain on top. If there are any issues, they should resolve them after the Champions Trophy,” he added.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already advertised for the coach’s post despite Kumble’s highly-successful stint ever since he was appointed the head coach in June last year. He began his term with a 2-0 Test series victory in West Indies. After that, the Virat Kohli-led side won 10 out of 13 Tests in a mammoth home season, registering series victories over New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia in addition to winning the limited-overs series against New Zealand and England. But with his contract expiring at the end of the Champions Trophy, the board has decided against handing him an extension.

Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag, Dodda Ganesh, Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput and Richard Pybus have applied for the coach’s post while Kumble has got a direct entry.
