Nuwan Pradeep Ruled Out Of The Remainder Of 2nd Test After Hamstring Pull
The worrisome suspicion of Sri Lanka losing yet another important name to injury has come true after it was reported that seamer Nuwan Pradeep has been ruled out of the remainder of India’s innings of the ongoing 2nd Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo. Sri Lanka’s manager Asanka Gurusinha confirmed the news to Cricbuzz.
The right arm fast bowler could not continue to bowl after pulling up his left hamstring late in the final session of the opening day. He bowled just four deliveries with the second new ball before walking off the field.
He is expected to undergo an MRI scan in the evening and if the reports are to be believed, his further participation in the match remains highly doubtful.
His absence now means that skipper Dinesh Chandimal will be without a frontline fast bowler as the hosts chose to gamble with the idea of playing just one paceman in the important Test. Therefore, Pradeep’s injury and unfit Mathews not eligible to bowl, Sri Lanka will have to manage the day with three spinners and a part time seamer in the form of Dimuth Karunaratne.
Sri Lanka has been hit by injuries from the start of the series. They lost the services of all-rounder Asela Gunaratne in the first Test after he fractured his left thumb while attempting a catch in the slip position. Later in the match, Rangana Herath also suffered an injury scare after he hurt his left middle finger while fielding in the Galle Test and didn’t bowl on Day 4. The veteran spinner, fortunately, was announced fit to take the field but Gunaratne had to be ruled out of the entire series.
India has fully exploited the weak lineup and is currently in a formidable position after opting to bat after winning the toss. Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane struck centuries respectively to set the foundation for India to still 450 runs mark at Lunch on Day 2.
