Williamson

The Decision Review System (DRS) landed in another controversy today when the New Zeland skipper, Kane Williamson, was adjudged out by third umpire who overturned the decision of the on-field umpire.

It was the 15th over of the day when Sohail Khan bowled fifth delivery of the over which went straight into the hands of wicketkeeper Sarfaraz Khan. Pakistan team appealed for it for on-field umpire Simon Fry moved his face left and right. An unconvinced Pakistan team decided to review the decision. The hot spot picture showed no spot on the bat as the image showed in the graphic had no white mark on it. Third umpire Ian Gould then went ahead to check customary the snicko and it was the stage that trapped Williamson as the snicko graph went up reflecting that there has been a communication between bat and ball. Neither video nor the hot spot showed any rub between bat and ball but that sound went against Williamson and he was dismissed out.

He was not amused by it as it was not clear whether the snicko graph has gone up due to the sound produced by communication between bat and ball or something else. The third umpire overturned on-field umpires decision and he was dismissed out. This moment again landed DRS under scanner as again its reliability came under scanner.

New Zealand was on a score if 77/2 in 21 overs as 69 overs were scuppered due to persistent rain.
