NZ vs PAK 2016: Misbah-ul-Haq Likely To Miss Second Test 1

Misbah-ul-Haq, Pakistan’s Test captain, is unlikely to play the second match against New Zealand, starting on November 25 as he is all set to be alongside his critically ill father-in-law. Misbah, who is accompanied by his family in New Zealand, received the unfortunate news on Sunday morning and is scheduled to leave for Pakistan on Sunday evening.

However, Pakistan manager Wasim Bari has still not ruled him out of the second Test and has said his availability will depend on his father-in-law’s condition in Pakistan.

It will be a huge blow for the world number two team if their captain misses the do-or-die clash in Hamilton. They lost the first Test by eight wickets and would have wanted their inspirational captain more than ever to avoid a series defeat. In Misbah’s absence, vice-captain Azhar Ali is likely to lead the team.

After the conclusion of the first Test at Hagley Oval, Ali said his team will have to cope with the tough situation.

“Misbah’s been exceptional throughout the years and we’ll miss him definitely. We have to cope with that now and whoever comes into the side will take that opportunity and give us runs, as well as the stability he gives us in the middle,” Ali said.

Meanwhile, Misbah, who during the first Test became the first Pakistan captain to lead in 50 Tests, had previously missed only one game since taking charge of the team in 2010. He could not play against Sri Lanka in 2012 after being suspended for slow over-rate.
