Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq identified two promising Pakistani talents who he believes can be compared to international stars such as Kuldeep Yadav and Tabraiz Shamsi in the years to come. The Men in Green spinners have struggled to make an impact in the ongoing World Cup, which led to the team’s failure in the marquee event.
Pakistan’s spinners are having a tough time in the World Cup. None of them have an average of less than 90 in this competition, making all four of them the worst spinners in the event. These numbers are the main reason behind the team’s failure in the marquee event.
During a recent interview with a local media channel, Misbah-ul-Haq emphasized the scarcity of World Quality spinners in Pakistan over the past decade, but he expressed his optimism about the emergence of these two talented individuals.
“Unfortunately, in Pakistan, I will talk about the last 10-12 years that we didn’t have these kind of bowlers. Recently, there are two bowlers. One, Faisal Akram, who is coming from under-16, still isn’t getting consistent chances, and he doesn’t bowl that much anywhere. We invited him to practice matches against Pakistan, and at that time, everyone had trouble picking him, and there were issues in the nets as well. The other is Sufiyan Muqeem, who is currently playing for Pakistan Shaheens,” Misbah-ul-Haq said.
Pakistan’s cricket team is struggling to face wrist-spinners at the ODI World Cup. The statistics back up this fact, as the team has lost four consecutive matches against India, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa. During these defeats, the team has frequently lost wickets to the skillful wrist-spin bowlers in the middle overs of the game.
Pakistan lost their fourth consecutive World Cup match to South Africa in their previous game. It was a thrilling match finale, with Babar Azam and his team scoring 270 runs, but Proteas chased down the target with just one wicket to spare. After six games, the Men in Green have only four points in their account. They won their first two games, but have been unable to win any since then.
Pakistan’s chances of finishing among the top four teams in the 2023 World Cup points standings appear to be slim. However, Babar Azam and his team could theoretically make it to the semifinals if they win their final three games against Bangladesh, New Zealand, and England. They would also need a few other results to work in their favour.
