Former Indian wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta heaped praise on Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan for his brilliant performance in the ongoing ODI World Cup. The 31-year-old has been the Men in Green’s outstanding batter and would be eager to continue his fine form in the marquee event.

Mohammad Rizwan has performed exceptionally well for the Men in Green in the ODI World Cup, playing some sensible and impactful knocks against formidable opponents and the Pakistan team will rely on him to score big runs in the next two crucial games.

In a recent interview, Deep Dasgupta hailed the decision to promote Rizwan up to the number four slot in the batting order stands out because of his ability to steady the innings at this crucial point and emphasizes the critical role that one-day cricket’s middle overs play.

“The decision to play Rizwan at number four is a good one. Eleven to forty overs are crucial in one-day cricket. Playing out the middle overs makes a difference in teams and Rizwan performs well in the middle order. There is no flaw in Rizwan; he is the best wicket-keeper,” Deep Dasgupta said.

“In my opinion, Rizwan is one of the top three wicket-keepers in the world. Quinton de Kock, KL Rahul, and Rizwan are the top wicket-keepers,” Deep Dasgupta added.

Pakistan may yet be able to make it to the World Cup semifinals in 2023. Babar Azam’s team must now defeat New Zealand and England to maintain their winning streak and would be hopeful of a few results working in their favour to make it into the semifinals of the mega event.

We Have High Hopes Of Big Scores From Babar Azam – Deep Dasgupta

On Pakistan chance’s of making it into the Semifinals, Deep Dasgupta stressed that their performance will determine their fate, and reaffirmed his trust in Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, despite his somewhat muted showing in the competition, in an attempt to uplift the emotions of Pakistani cricket fans.

“We are yet to see the best of Babar Azam in the tournament. He may not be in top form, but we have high hopes for big scores from him. People compare Babar to [Kane] Williamson, [Virat Kohli], and other high-scoring players. It’s possible that Babar didn’t find his form due to the early dismissals of openers,” Deep Dasgupta concluded.

The Men in Green’s next vital ODI World Cup matchup is against New Zealand, and Pakistan will need to win convincingly in Bangalore since a loss would mean they are out of the competition altogether.
