England all-rounder Liam Livingstone has refuted Eoin Morgan’s claim that the defending champions are appearing “unsettled” and has dismissed the reports of unrest within the dressing room. The Jos Buttler-led side has struggled to perform under pressure in the ongoing ODI World Cup in India and has failed to execute their style of play on the big stage.
Earlier, the World Cup-winning England skipper, Eoin Morgan, expressed his concern about the morale and mood of the England team following their poor performance in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. At present, the defending champions are at the bottom of the points table, below Bangladesh and the Netherlands.
Speaking to the reporters on the ICC mixed zone, Liam Livingstone has denied the claims about the unrest in the England dressing room, stating that it wasn’t the reason behind the team’s poor campaign in the marquee event.
“Everybody in that dressing room has got immense respect for Morgs. We all love Morgs, but hand on heart there is nothing going wrong in the team,” Liam Livingstone said
During an interview with Sky Sports, Eoin Morgan conveyed his apprehensions regarding the confidence and morale of his team. He pointed out that there is a clear issue within the team and questioned their approach in the ODI World Cup.
Additionally, he emphasised that the team’s lack of confidence can be attributed to their poor performance in the high-profile event.
“I’ve never come across a sports team that has underperformed like this England team, given the level of expectation that is on their shoulders. There’s something within the team that is definitely unsettled,” Eoin Morgan said.
“The method which they’re trying to use and given the substantial nature in which they’ve lost the game(s). It is definitely called into question, the morale within the changing room and the confidence. It must be at its lowest that it’s been for a considerable period of time now,” Eoin Morgan added.
England suffered a crushing 100-run defeat at the hands of India during their match in Lucknow on Sunday, October 29. The loss marked the fifth defeat in six games for the team led by Jos Buttler, which placed them at the bottom of the points table. As a result, their chances of advancing to the next stage of the tournament were virtually eliminated.
