Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Zaka Ashraf has begun speaking with former Pakistan players in the wake of the national team’s dismal showing at the present World Cup in India. The Men in Green are under the pump starting from the Asia Cup 2023, failing to produce an impactful performance against the bigger opponents.
After Pakistan’s shocking loss against Afghanistan, Ashraf met with former players Muhammad Yousuf and Aaqib Javed alongside Pakistan’s chief selector Inzamam ul Haq, to seek their advice guidance on how to proceed with the team going forward and it is reported that he intends to meet with leaders like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Saqlain Mushtaq, and Umar Gul to take the Pakistan Cricket forward.
According to a news release from the PCB, the PCB head was eager to meet with other former players to hear their perspectives on how the team’s current players were progressing and underlined that the Board is putting a lot of effort into utilizing the experience of former players who have served Pakistan in a variety of ways.
“These players have served Pakistan at the highest stage and have a treasure of experience under their belts. We hope to utilize their expertise to help ensure our players are developed well in all aspects of the game. In this way, we hope we can produce players in all departments of the game that can serve Pakistan in the future,” Zaka Ashraf said.
After losing their previous two games, Pakistan was in desperate need of a victory as they faced Afghanistan but failed to live up to the expectations in the match, Pakistan’s failure was largely due to their poor fielding effort and below-par bowling by their spinners, who failed to utilize the spin-friendly conditions in Chepauk.
The Primary Goal Of This Camp Is To Nurture These Players – Zaka Ashraf
Zaka Ashraf said that they will organize a camp for top-performing domestic players to nurture them for International cricket and revealed that it is an attempt to bridge the gap between domestic and International cricket.
“The primary goal of this camp is to nurture these players and make them ready for the international stage, in an attempt to bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket,” Zaka Ashraf added.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will look to develop a young crop of players post-ODI World Cup 2023 after their dismissal performance in the marquee event. The Men in Green will take on South Africa in their next game on Friday.
