On-field umpire Kumar Dharmasena felt Ben Stokes was not out: Eion Morgan
When the controversy is no way to finish Ben Stokes the victim of controversial “obstructing the field” out shared his opinion on twitter once more.
He said, “people sharing their opinion about yesterday, including some Australian players. I share mine”. But, “I don’t want to get fined.”
England ODI captain Eion Morgan was at the none- striker end during their failed chase to Australia’s 309 for seven.
“The guy (Mitchell Starc throws the ball in your direction from five yards, and all you can do is flinch,” Morgan said.
Morgan said he will never appeal for out if they were fielding.
“He (Ben Stokes) was given out. It would have been a lot different if we were fielding – I think it was a natural reaction to protect himself as much as anything else.
“My interpretation of it was that his reaction wasn’t deliberate”, Morgan added.
Morgan said that on-field umpire Dharmasena intuitively felt that Stokes was not out, Mirror reported.
As per Morgan’s statement Dhamasena disagreed with the video umpire as he felt Ben Stokes tried to defend him from the Mitchell Starc throw.
“Kumar told me that they didn’t think it was out … and the third umpire has disagreed. I feel the ball was thrown so fast you can only react in a way that defends yourself.
“I think he put his hand up to protect himself and followed the ball a little bit. How you can interpret that is open. But certainly, I didn’t think it was deliberate,” Morgan signed off.
