  1. Greenidge plays his last test:

Greenidge, who is now 65 years of age, played his last test match in his career on this day, on his 40th birthday.

In the 5th and the last test match of the series between Australia and West Indies in Antigua, the visitors won the toss, chose to bat and put on a formidable score in the first innings. Greenidge needed to play a big innings but was out for 6 in the first innings and 40 odd in the second leaving his team with a 157-run loss against Australia.

Though West Indies won the series 2-1, this turned out to be the last game for the legendary batsman who ended his career after a knee injury on a tour to England just a few months later.
