Ottis Gibson Is New Bowling Coach Of Bangladesh Team

The former South African head coach, Ottis Gibson will soon be joining hands with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The board is all set to appoint him as their bowling head coach after relieving Charl Langeveldt as per the request of Cricket South Africa (CSA).

Gibson will be guiding the Bangladesh team as soon as they come back from touring Pakistan for the three-match T20I series. Mahmudullah Riyad-led team will start their tour from 24th January that will end on the 27th January. However, the T20I series is just the first phase of the entire four-month-stretched schedule that also includes two Test matches and a solitary ODI.

Meanwhile, Langeveldt had been guiding the Bangladesh team for the five months as their bowling coach. More than a month ago, BCB received a formal request from the CSA to release Langeveldt so that he could have the opportunity to work with the South African team. On the other hand, BCB accepted the request while understanding Langeveldt’s would to work with his nation.

In the meantime, the high-performance coach of Bangladesh Champaka Ramanayake will be part of team management as a pace bowling coach during the tour of Pakistan. Whereas, Gibson, as informed by a BCB official, is the first choice for the bowling coach and soon will be joining the team.

He also informed that Gibson will soon be joining the team in Dhaka within a day or two and complete the formalities which have been discussed verbally till now.

“We have verbally reached an agreement and only the formalities remain. Once that is done, he will be available to join the Bangladesh national team in Lahore,” a BCB official confirmed on Tuesday.

Gibson previously worked in Bangladesh with Cumilla Warriors during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He previously served as the Head Coach for the South Africa National Cricket Team in 2017.
