Our Defence Forces Told us it Was Safe to Tour Pakistan: Zimbabwe Cricket Chief
International cricket returned to Pakistan after a wait of 6 years and the team celebrated this occasion with a white wash of the T20 series against Zimbabwe. However, it was not before a lot of debate regarding the safety of the touring players.
The Zimbabwe team has toured Pakistan amidst a lot of security concerns among nations all around the world who are still not willing to tour Pakistan. Even the Zimbabwean Sports and Recreation Committee (SRC) warned them against the tour but the team went through with it after speaking to the country’s defense committee reports said.
Wilson Manase, the chairman of cricket in Zimbabwe said that the SRC contacted the ministry of foreign affairs who also felt that it was not the right idea to tour Pakistan after the Karachi incident but the team went through with the tour because most matches were played in Karachi. He added that he spoke the relevant authority of the government and that the tour went through only after a green signal was given by these authorities.
The PCB has taken great care in the security of the players from this nation with thousands of men for security in every minute and Wilson went on to say that he felt that Pakistan is no longer a country un-safe for sports and that he will encourage the ICC to look into giving Pakistan more home games in the wake of the success of the series against Zimbabwe.
