Paddy Upton Reveals That Speaking About His Sex Dossier to Indian Players was a Mistake As it Was a Joke to Them
Former Team India conditioning coach and a current head coach of Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) Paddy Upton in his book ‘The Upcoming Barefoot Coach’ revealed that one of his most prominent mistakes during his tenure as the mental conditioning coach of Team India. He stated that making Indian players have sex and speak about his sex dossier was like a joke in the Indian cricketing circles.
Paddy Upton further revealed that it was a joke and the Indian media like always made it out of proportions which is quite common in this part of the world Paddy Upton said that he wasn’t mentioning the players to do anything particular but was just sharing his knowledge and information and passing it to the players.
“I wasn’t telling the players to do anything. I was sharing information. And what was taken out of context in the media was the jokes that I told them; I wasn’t suggesting players do that. That was just the jokes and tongue-in-cheeks mistakes that I made. It certainly wasn’t instructions or suggestions to players. But, yes, I made the mistake, as I mentioned in the book, easily my biggest professional error,” Paddy Upton said in an interview.
In his new book, the current head coach of Rajasthan Royals also revealed certain aspects of former cricketers and one of them was none other than our World Cup hero Gautam Gambhir who played a pivotal role in India winning the 2007 World Twenty20 and the 2011 50 overs World Cup. Paddy Upton said that Gautam Gambhir was one of the most negative person he has ever worked with. He stated that Gambhir always had self-doubts and vulnerabilities despite even scoring a double century.
During his interview with the IANS, Gautam Gambhir said that he enjoyed his time with Paddy Upton but felt that he could have mentioned other aspects of his game as well rather than pointing out that he was riddled with insecurities.
“I don’t see anything sinister with what Paddy wrote. He is a top guy and I see this as his personal opinion. He just missed two important things: firstly, he didn’t state all the other facts and secondly, he failed to explain the perspective. Anyone would like to have a guy who is not satisfied with his current achievements. So in short, I wasn’t satisfied with a 100 and wanted to have more,” Gautam Gambhir had said.
