Pakistan announces Test squad for Test series vs England
Pakistan, on Wednesday, announced a 15 man squad for three-match Test series against England at their adopted home in UAE. The Pakistan Cricket Board selection committee kept almost the same Sri Lanka series winning team, but, excluded three members – Ehsan Adil, Haris Sohail and Babar Azam- from the Sri Lanka tour. While Anwar Ali is injured, Sarfraz Ahmed will miss T20 series as he the batsman will perform religious retrial Haj.
The first Test of the three-match series is scheduled to play on September 13, in the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. After the conclusion of the Test series, Pakistan will play four match ODI series and three matches T20 series will start on November 11.
The Pakistan Cricket Board issued a press release, in which it describes the selection committee’s process to select players for the England series, “(1) Continuity process in the rebuilding phase of the Pakistan team by retaining the majority of players who were part of the successful last tour of Sri Lanka. (2) Outstanding performances in the recently concluded Haier T20 National tournament were duly rewarded and have been included in the teams. (3). Players coming out of injuries are recalled and selected in the team. (4). Anwar Ali has been rested for the T20 series against Zimbabwe due to a groin strain, but would join the team for the ODI series in Zimbabwe after going through rehab at the NCA. (5). Sarfraz Ahmed will not be part of T20 squad against Zimbabwe because he will be performing Haj.”
Pakistan’s chief selector Haroon Rashid was quoted as saying by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official website: “In the light of Misbah-ul-Haq recommendations, we have kept the options open for the 16th player in the Test squad against England, picking up two left-arm spin bowlers namely Zafar Gohar and Mohammad Asghar for the brace of practice games against England prior to the Test matches in the UAE; whoever amongst the two performs well would be added to the Test squad.”
“Besides that, some budding youngsters have been recommended to be included in the Pakistan camp for Zimbabwe tour to be held from September 17-20, 2015 at Lahore. They are Rumman Raees, Junaid Khan, Mir Hamza, Hassan Ali, Ziaul Haq, Zafar Gohar, Mohammad Asghar, Iftikhar Ahmed of Peshawar and Faisal Mubashir of Bahawalpur.
In the last series between these two countries in UAE. The Visitor lost the Test series 3-0 but made a remarkable turnaround as they won the ODI series 4-0 and T20 series 2-1.
