There has been a lot of talks over the finalizing of the venue for the upcoming Asia Cup 2020. As Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) holds the right to host the coveted event, BCCI has shown no interest, as of now, in participating in the competition which is scheduled ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2020.
PCB is desperate to host the Asia Cup at the home as it might open its chance to host other countries. But the political tension between the two countries had now led the continental championship to be held in a neutral country.
According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official has told the Bangalore Mirror that board understands that the tournament will be held in Dubai.
“Our understanding is that the Asia Cup matter is resolved, and the neutral venue will be finalized at the ACC meeting,” the BCCI official said.
On the other hand, PCB chief Ehsan Mani refused to comment on the venue. He said that the final decision on the matter will be taken in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting. While the meeting is scheduled for this month (February).
“It is an ACC matter and the venue will be decided at the ACC meeting,” he said.
The same case happened in 2018 when India had the hosting rights. But the tournament was staged in the UAE two years back and the same is likely to happen this year too.
Meanwhile, India is the most successful team in this tournament. They are also the defending champions of the Asia Cup. The Men in Blue had won the tournament in 2018 by beating Bangladesh in the final.
As the upcoming edition is scheduled ahead of the T20 World Cup, the event will surely help the Asian countries to prepare themselves for the T20 World Cup scheduled in Australia.
