Pakistan have managed to break India’s record of 454 ODI wins after their win against West Indies in the first ODI of the three-match series which is being held in the United Arab Emirates.
The Pakistan team now has 455 ODI wins and are only next to Australia of the teams that have won most ODIs matches in the history of the game.
Pakistan are now second most successful team as they have won 455 and lost 383 in 864 ODI matches they played so far. On the other hand, arch rivals India have played 899 ODIs in which they managed to win 454 and are now one less win than Pakistan.
The Green team are also third best in terms of win percentage as they have an impressive 54.25% only next to South Africa who has 63.78% and Australia’s 64.73%.
The win is a much-needed one for Pakistan as they are currently lying in the ninth position in ODI rankings just above their neighbors Afghanistan. The win will help their ranking points as they look to make the most of the series to manage a better ranking in an attempt to secure an automatic qualification for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.
Pakistan have looked off sorts in the recent years as they have had poor ODI performances despite impressing in the other two formats. The win against West Indies would help improve their rating points while eight ranked West Indies could suffer if they cannot manage to put up better performances in the series.
Pakistan coach Mikey Arthur had warned his players to up their ODI game as he is keen to put back Pakistan in a respectable position in the format as they are a great side in the other two formats.
Pakistan have recently lost ODI series against England by a massive 1-4 while they managed to draw the test series with the hosts in a thrilling 2-2 series which helped them become the No.1 test side in the world.
Pakistan would be hoping to improve their game in the coming matches as they look to break into the top 8 which would ensure automatic qualification for the 2019 World Cup.
