Pakistan In Control As Younis Khan Becomes First Pakistani To Reach 10,000 Tests Runs On Day Three Against West Indies 1

Pakistan middle-order batsman Younis Khan on Sunday has reached the milestone of 10,000 Test runs shortly after the tea break against the West Indies; on day three of the ongoing first Test at Sabina Park in Jamaica after hosts posted 286 in their first innings.

While reaching to the landmark with a sweep shot, on the bowling of off-spinner Roston Chase, Younis also became 13th overall batsman in history to go past 10,000-run mark in the longer version of the game.

Before playing his 116th Test, Younis required another 23 runs to cross past the feat which he achieved on the day three after day two was washed out by rain.

Younis achieved the feat in his 208th Test innings with the average of just a shade over 53. The Mardan-born underrated batsman made his debut in 2000, scored 58 off 138 balls before Pakistan finished day three with 201 for four on board at the stumps of day three in 78.2 overs.

Younis was caught by Kraigg Brathwaite on the bowling of fast bowler Shanon Gabriel.

The right-handed batsman Younis has played a significant role for Pakistan particularly for Tests in which he has scored 10,035 runs so far, in which he scored 34 centuries and 33 half-centuries.

In Abu Dhabi Test since October 2015, Younis went past the tally of 8832 runs set by Javed Miandad to become the leading Test scorer for Pakistan.

In 2009, Younis has scored his highest Test score of 313 at Karachi against Sri Lanka.

It becomes pertinent that Pakistan’s two senior campaigners Younis and Misbah-Ul-Haq are playing their farewell series in the Caribbean.

While coming to the match report, the right-handed promising prospect Babar Azam scored 72 off 201 balls after both the openers Ahmed Shehzad and Azhar Ali were dismissed at the score of 23 and 54 runs.

In 69th over Azam was bowled by Shannon Gabriel as Pakistan lost two quick wickets.

Azam knitted 131-run partnership for the third wicket alongside Younis.

While having the contrasting similarity, skipper Misbah-Ul-Haq scored unbeaten 5 off 35 balls as he is batting alongside Asad Shafiq, who has scored 5* off the same amount of deliveries Misbah has faced as both have the strike-rate of 14.29.

Azhar Ali was removed in sixth over by Alzarri Joseph on 15 off 9 balls when Shane Dowrich completed a simple catch.

Shanon Gabriel picked two wickets and Alzarri Joseph, Jason Holder picked a wicket apiece.

Ahmed Shehzad, who seemed to go well, was caught in front of the stumps by Jason Holder.

The right-handed batsman scored 31 off 50 balls which included five fours.

Earlier, the day started when Mohammad Amir claimed his career-best figures of 6 for 44 when he dismissed Shanon Gabriel, who scored five off 13 balls – to see the hosts being bundled out for 286.

Moreover, Younis also become sixth fastest batsman to go past the landmark. He was effusively praised by the international cricket stars, fans and netizens of Pakistan after he celebrated the moment while raising his bat before kissing the badge embossed on the helmet.
