Pakistan Cricket Board is in Touch with Sri Lanka Cricket for the Two-Match Test Series

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is in constant touch with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to look for the revival of cricket on a frequent basis in the embattled country.

Moreover, Geo Tv suggested that PCB is in talks with Sri Lankan board to play two Tests on Pakistan soil.

The Tests series is expected to be a part of the world cricket governing body ICC’s maiden edition of the World Test Championship.

Interestingly, the inaugural edition of the Test championship will commence from July 2019.

Besides, the grand-finale is schedule in June 2021. With twelve nations partaking in the Test set-up, only nine countries will compete in the impending championship.

Thus, it means Zimbabwe and newbies in the Test fold Afghanistan and Ireland will miss out in the much-awaited competition.

However, both boards of Pakistan and Sri Lanka are yet to come to the terms of agreeing to play the Test series in Pakistan.

As per the Pakistan media, there’s a possibility of Lanka board accepting the offer from Pakistan for the multi-day competition.

If the proposal will receive a green signal, then Karachi and Lahore will host the two-match Test series.

Pertinently, Pakistan has hosted a Test match last time in 2009. Back then, the Sri Lankan team bus came under a gruesome attack at the Liberty Chowk in Lahore.

During that unfortunate incident couple of Lankan players have nursed injuries. It further resulted in the isolation of international cricket in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, back then Pakistan adopted the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as their second home venue before hosting a couple of series against Zimbabwe and Windies at home soil, of late.

Overall, it took Pakistan six years following the despicable attack—to set high hopes on the revival of international cricket in Pakistan.

In 2015, Zimbabwe played three One-day Internationals and two Twenty20 Internationals against Pakistan in 2015.

The fortified Gaddafi Stadium witnessed the return of Island cricketers when they played a One-off T20 game in October 2017.

In April 2018, Windies faced Pakistan in the three-match T20 series.

However, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has helped the country’s cause since the second edition.

Recently, Pakistan has received a major boost when an outgoing ICC chief executive David Richardson, has lauded the efforts of PCB.

On his visit to Pakistan in March, Richardson maintained the bold move will help to restore cricket in Pakistan in the foreseeable future.

In the recently-concluded PSL final, the pool of foreign players visited Pakistan. It somehow is a positive indication for the future of Pakistan cricket.
