Pakistan Cricket Team Shaken By Earthquake in New Zealand 1

Misbah-ul-Haq-led Pakistan, who are currently in New Zealand for a two-match Test series, had a mighty scare when a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck Nelson. But fortunately, no damage was done as the team was safely escorted out of their hotels. However, the horrific incident has shaken the whole Pakistani team, with team manager Wasim Bari calling the experience a ‘terrifying’ one.

As quoted in the Deccan Chronicle, Bari said:“We are staying at a hotel in Nielsen, where we were playing our tour match but today when the earthquake came it was a terrifying experience as everything was shaking badly and we were safely escorted out of the hotel.”

Bari said the hotel team was spot on in escorting the team out from the seventh floor of the hotel.

“The hotel staff took great care of us and quickly evacuated us from our seventh-floor rooms and have now taken us to a safe zone until the Tsunami warnings are over,” he said.

“Most of the players were in their rooms watching the India and England Test match when it came, the quake was a powerful one and the windows and doors were banging around and it was shaking as we were rushed out. But everyone has settled down now and we also called up the women’s team in Christchurch to find out if they were okay,” he added.

Pakistan’s women team is also in the country for a series and reports have confirmed they are safe too.

The danger is still lingering over the country as New Zealand’s Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management has issued a warning of Tsunami.

Speaking of the current weather in the Nelson, Bari said:“It rained throughout our stay in Nielsen so we are hoping to see some sunshine and clear weather in Christchurch. Obviously, if conditions are wet it is not to our liking.”

The two-match Test series will start from November 17.
