Pakistan threaten to pull out of 2016 T20 World Cup

Lahore, Oct 25 (IANS) Pakistan may pull out of next year’s Twenty20 World Cup, if hosts India fail to honour the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) committing them to play six series between 2015 and 2023. Talks between the two cricket boards failed to bear fruit on October 19 after Shiv Sena activists barged into the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) office in Mumbai. On Saturday, Pakistan Cricket Board chief Shaharyar Khan said that if India does not play a series in winter, then the government might not let Pakistan team take part in the World T20 next year, BBC reported. The 2016 Twenty20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in March and April.

“This is possible that if India close all doors, then we have to decide and make a policy. We will have to take advice from the Pakistan government and I think the government will say don’t go in the event,” Khan said. India and Pakistan have not taken part in a bilateral Test series since 2007 after the Indian government chose to stall ties in the aftermath of the terrorist attack on Mumbai in 2008, that was allegedly carried out by militants from the neighbouring country. India were to feature in two Twenty20 internationals, five One-Day Internationals and two Tests this year in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where Pakistan play their home matches because of security concerns in their own country.
