Pakistan To Tour New Zealand For Limited-Overs Series In 2018
Under the dynamic leadership of gloveman Sarfraz Ahmed, Pakistan is scheduled to play limited-overs series against New Zealand in 2018, which was also revealed by the official cricket board website of New Zealand Cricket (NZC).
The series will be comprised of five One-day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals, as the tour will kick start from January 6 at Basin Reserve in Wellington.
Moreover, the fifth and final ODI will be played at the same venue on January 19. The T20Is will be beginning from January 22 at Westpac Stadium in Wellington. However, in the fixture calendar, the third and final T20I is slated for January 28 at Bay Oval in Tauranga.
Earlier, in June Pakistan side was termed as underdogs as the unit has produced an outstanding result to clinch their maiden eight-team ICC Champions Trophy title.
After thrashing the arch-rival India by 180 runs, the Men in Green has also improved their 50-over rankings to maintain the sixth spot on the ICC ODI rankings.
After Azhar Ali stepped down from the captaincy post drubbing from Australia and string of poor results came in his way which further drew the flak, as Sarfraz was named his successor in February, before participating in his major ICC tournament as a skipper alongside his Indian counterpart Virat Kohli, who led the Men in Blue into the grand final at Kennington Oval, in London in June.
Against Kane Williamson’s Black Caps in November 2016, the last time when both sides met as the Kiwis claimed the two-match Test series in their own backyard after claiming the first Test by eight wickets in Christchurch followed by a convincing 138-run victory in Hamilton.
The 30-year-old Karachi-born Sarfraz, who made his international debut in 2007 against India at Jaipur, has featured in 75 ODIs, 36 Tests and 29 T20Is for Pakistan.
Known for his aggressive approach, as a batsman and a leader, Sarfraz has amassed 2089 runs in the five-day format at an average of 40.96, followed by 1,644 runs in the 50-over format, as he collected 359 runs in short-paced competition.
