Pakistan Vs World XI 2017 – Gaddafi Stadium Renovated For Upcoming Series

The stage is set for international cricket to return to Pakistan, as the ICC appointed World XI series is just days away from arriving in the south Asian nation for a game of 3 T20I’s. This series is the first visit to Pakistan by an international side since 2015 when Zimbabwe came here for an ODI and T20I series. The three games will be held at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, which previously hosted the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) earlier this year.

Arrangements are being made to mark the return of international cricket, and that begins with restructuring the Gaddafi Stadium. In order to ensure that the setting remains perfect, a few aspects of the stadium are being renovated and improvised upon for the three match series.

“The arena will be tastefully decorated before the launch of the series as we still have a few days left to give the entire stadium a new look,” said an official from the PCB. “The preparations are very similar to the final of the Pakistan Super League which we successfully organised earlier this year,” the source further added.

Speaking about the series, was England’s 2010 ICC World T20 winning captain, and a member of the World XI squad, Paul Collingwood. The former England all rounder spoke about his delight on cricket returning to Pakistan.

“I’m sure that once we get out there, the locals will want Pakistan to win, but they will see the bigger picture and they will be behind us too,” Collingwood mentioned on ICC’s website.”If teams are going to tour there again, it’s important that their supporters are also going to be safe to travel there.”

“Trying to help Pakistan is important for cricket – and no-one can pretend the money isn’t great – but, added to that, playing them in their own back yard also really floated my boat.”I’ve not played international cricket since 2011, so to play in games with full international status against the full Pakistan side is very, very exciting and it’s great to be involved.”
