For the first time in a long while now, has the actual result of a series not mattered to a great extent. The fact that international cricket was back in Pakistan after a long exile was a colossal achievement in itself. More than the plain scoreline, it was the opportunity to witness live cricket in their yard, which served as the ultimate reward for all Pakistani fans.
The series between Pakistan and World XI is bound to go down as a historic affair, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the complete dedication of the ICC’s delegation which set about the logistical aspect.
The third and final game of the series saw Pakistan clinching the series with a comprehensive victory by 33 runs. Opener Ahmed Shehzad stood out with a fabulous knock of 89.
Post the game, World XI skipper Faf du Plessis was full of smiles and lauded Pakistan for an excellent show.
“The series is a huge success,” said du Plessis. “Cricket’s come back to Pakistan. From our point of view, we thank everyone. Our team will get better.”
“Was a great competition,” he added. “Pakistan are a very good side. It’s not the Pakistan team that you can beat in the field easily. They have the skills with the ball and their batting is also strong. Captaining World XI was great. It’s a good bunch of guys. And it makes a week or ten days like this very enjoyable.”
