Pandurang Salgaonkar is all set to return as the curator of the Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium in Gahunje next week.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) secretary Riyaz Bagwan said the association’s managing committee recently took the decision.
Moreover, ICC suspended Salagonkar for six months from all cricketing activities after he entertained some TV journalists who claimed to have posed as bookies in the lead up to India’s ODI against New Zealand last October.
ICC gives Salgaonkar a clean chit
After detailed inquiry, ICC came to the conclusion there was no monetary exchange to change the nature of the pitch.
However, ICC suspended him for failing to report the incident to the anti-corruption authorities.
As a result, he will prepare the pitches for CSK’s home games at Pune.
The 68-year old Salgaonkar also lost his MCA managing committee member’s post from the Sindhudurg district following the incident.
The detailed verdict of the ICC had stated that Salgaonkar spoke to the sting operators through another pitch curator. However, the name and intention of the other curator is yet to be revealed.
MCA president, Abhay Apte admitted that managing committee would take a call on further investigation.
Meanwhile, Salagaonkar represented Maharashtra in 63 first-class matches during 1971–1982. He worked as the curator when the city hosted their first Test match between India and Australia last February. The rank-turner backfired, as the host lost the game within three days.
After the ICC match referee termed the venomous track as “poor” in his report, the MCA roped in former Maharashtra captain and national selector Surendra Bhave as additional curator for the seven home games of Pune’s IPL franchise.
Bhave is currently working as the head coach of the U-19 West Zone cricket camp.
