Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel, who last played for India in 2018, has revealed that he has nine fingers and how it was difficult for him to don the gloves.

Parthiv, so far, has played 25 Tests and 38 ODIs for India. He was lastly included in the squad in the India tour to Australia 2018-2019 but didn’t get the chance to bat. Since then, he has been playing domestic cricket and also led the Gujarat team to the semi-final of the Ranji Trophy 2019-20 season.

The 35-year-old, in the recent interview, has opened up that he played with nine fingers, and because of which, he had hard times while donning the glove.

“My finger came in the door when I was six, and it got cut,” Parthiv said while speaking in a new series called Cow Corner Chronicles.

He said that he tapped the little finger under the glove as the cut finger didn’t fit into the gloves.

“It is slightly difficult in a way because the last finger doesn’t fit in the wicket-keeping gloves. So I tape it down the gloves so that it stays jointed. I don’t know how it would’ve been if I had all the fingers, but when I look back, it feels good to represent India as a wicketkeeper with nine fingers,” Parthiv added.

The Gujarat player made the debut in the Indian team in 2002 before MS Dhoni but could not maintain his place to Dhoni. After Dhoni made the debut in 2004, Parthiv lost his place in the Indian national cricket team.

Recently, in an interview, Parthiv said that he was fighting for the second place of wicketkeeper because he knew former Indian captain was the first choice of team management. In ODIs, he has scored 736 runs at an average of 23.74 while in Tests, he has scored 934 runs. He has played 2 T20Is where he scored 36 runs.
