England seamer, Pat Brown has been ruled out from the upcoming limited over series against South Africa with a lower back stress fracture. Brown suffered the injury during his tenure with Melbourne Stars in the ongoing Big Bash League. The England selectors will soon name a replacement for the fast bowler.

Pat Brown was selected in the ODI and T20I squad for the series against the Proteas. However, England will need to come up with a replacement for the seamer.

Brown was supposed to replace Dale Steyn in the BBL.

“The 21-year-old Worcestershire quick developed a recurrence of low back symptoms whilst in Australia preparing to play for the Melbourne Stars in the Australian Big Bash. A scan has revealed a partial stress fracture,” the ECB stated in a release.

Meanwhile, Pat Brown was supposed to fill in the big shoes of Dale Steyn as an overseas player for Melbourne Stars. However, he has been withdrawn from all forms of the game for the remainder of England’s winter. He will head back home and will start his rehabilitation process with the medical team of Worcestershire.

England will play three ODIs and as many T20Is and the white ball series will begin from February 4. The first ODI will be played at Cape Town and the T20I series will commence from 12th February with the series opener to be played at East London.

Pat Brown had made his T20I debut against New Zealand last year. The young right-arm fast-medium has scalped three wickets in the four T20I matches he played.

On the other hand, South Africa currently leads the four-match Test series by 1-0 as they had won the first match by 107 runs. England has set a mammoth target of 438 runs for the Proteas and the hosts have got off to a good start as they currently are 111-1.
