The outbreak of coronavirus has halted all the entertainment all over the world. The Indian Premier League (IPL), called as annual cricket carnival of India, has also been affected. The 13th edition of the IPL has been postponed till 15th April. Well, with the increasing cases of the deadly virus in India, the BCCI will have to take further calls to decide the final dates. Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) player Pat Cummins looks hopeful for IPL 2020.
Earlier, the lucrative league was scheduled to start from 29th March but because of the outbreak of the deadly virus, BCCI postponed it. As of now, the virus has killed over 53,000 people all around the world. And in India, the number is increasing day by day.
Really confident and hopeful: Pat Cummins
The Australian cricketer Pat Cummins, who bagged hefty money of INR 15.5 crore from KRR in the last auction, is the most expensive foreign player in the IPL history. He opened up that he contacted the Kolkata-based franchise and they are confident to host the IPL this year. He conceded that the priority now is to minimize the risk of spreading the coronavirus.
“Everyone is still really keen for it (IPL) to go ahead, but the priority is to minimize the risk of it spreading,” Cummins was quoted as saying by the Australian Associated Press.
“It’s a holding pattern … the last I spoke to them, they were still really confident and hopeful it’ll be on at some stage,” he said.
“This year’s going to look very different from what we’ve seen before … there are so many scenarios. Unless things improve, I can’t really see many tournaments going on anywhere in the world for a little while.”
Pat Cummins, further, expressed that how his mates who are playing county cricket in England would have to put their careers on hold because of the outbreak of the deadly virus
