Pat Cummins, the Australian pace spearhead is an impactful bowler as he has the ability to take early wickets as felt by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head coach Brendon McCullum. Pat Cummins was bought by the franchise for Rs 15.50 crores in the December auction last year. The right-arm pace bowler has been in spectacular form and is also a key member in Australia’s bowling attack.
The lanky Australian fast bowler picked seven wickets on his Test debut and became the youngest player to receive a central contract with Cricket Australia.
The bowler who was earlier part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad in 2014 and 2015 was bought by the Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2017. He was the most expensive buy in the 2020 IPL Auction after being bagged by KKR for a whopping 15.50 crores.
Pat Cummins Is An Important Selection In IPL Auction And Key Buy Among Overseas Players: Brendon McCullum
Pat Cummins has picked up 143 wickets in 30 Tests, 108 wickets in 67 ODIs and 37 wickets in 30 T20Is. His bowling average is less than 22 in Tests and T20Is and 28.43 in ODIs. He has picked up 17 wickets in 16 IPL matches averaging 29.35. He has featured in only three IPLs-2014,2015 and 2017.
“Indian bowling attack does lack a little bit of experience in terms of game time but they have got an incredible amount of talent as all of them can bowl more than 140 kms an hour. They work really well together as a unit,” McCullum said in a virtual press conference.
“Really important selection in the IPL auction was of Pat Cummins. I think he is a key buy when it comes to overseas bowlers. For us, it was also about his ability to take early wickets. I am really content with the unit we have got,” he added.
Brendon McCullum said Indian pacers Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Prasidh Krishna and Sandeep Warrier have not much of an experience in IPL and international cricket but can generate enough pace. Prasidh Krishna has picked up 14 wickets from 18 matches, Shivam Mavi has picked up five wickets from nine matches while Sandeep Warrier has picked up three wickets from two matches. Kamlesh Nagarkoti is yet to debut as he was injured in 2018 and 2019.
