PCB all set to censure BCCI President Anurag Thakur

Disappointed by BCCI president Anurag Thakur’s statements on the Indo-Pak cricketing ties, the Pakistan Cricket Board is planning to censure Thakur during the upcoming ICC’s Executive Board meeting in Cape Town.

Following the Uri attack in which 19 Indian soldiers were martyred, Anurag Thakur publicly said that even the thought of resuming bilateral ties against the arch rivals is inappropriate. Later, he also urged ICC to not keep India and Pakistan in the same group in future ICC tournaments.

Former chairman of PCB Najam Sethi, who is now the chief of the executive committee, and Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmed will represent Pakistan at the meeting since chairman Shaharyar Khan is recovering from a heart surgery.

“The board has decided to give a stern reply to the BCCI and will also make a formal complaint against their remarks in the ICC meeting. The officials have gone well prepared to confront the BCCI, which is making every effort to sideline Pakistan cricket,” a PCB official was quoted as saying by the Express Tribune.

Meanwhile, as reported in the Indian Express, another official source of the PCB said that Sethi was very disappointed with Thakur’s statements.

“Pakistan’s stance is simple…first Anurag Thakur must clarify at the ICC meeting whether he gives statements as a politician of the ruling party in India or as President of the BCCI since the ICC constitution discourages politics in cricket,” the source said.

The source also revealed that the PCB will raise a question over India taking home a major share of profits made from Indo-Pak matches in ICC tournaments despite refusing to play bilateral series against Pakistan since 2007.

“Pakistan will be pushing for a review of the Big Three governance formula under which the head of corporate costs India take home nearly 32 percent of the earnings followed by England and Australia with 18 and 12 percent, which leaves nothing for other boards,” the source said.

The Pakistan delegation is also planning to raise their voice against the  ‘Big Three’ formula, which will help the cricket boards of India, England and Australia get a major share  from ICC’s revenue.

“The BCCI is expecting backing from other boards such as Bangladesh and West Indies. But we’re going to oppose them during the meeting,” the official said.
