The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) National Selection Committee has announced the High-Performance Camp which is scheduled for 10 weeks at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore where players would undergo rigorous training under the tutelage of highly qualified coaches.
It becomes pertinent, Umar Akmal was sent back from the United Kingdom after he failed a two fitness test which displeased head coach Mickey Arthur, who saw the middle-order batsman packing for the home, as left-handed Haris Sohail was picked in the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy.
The camp is scheduled to kick start from June 3 and will continue until September 9, as the decision has been taken to strengthen the bench and keep players read-to-go for the foreseeable fixtures of Pakistan cricket.
The players were requested to make their presence on July 2 at the academy in order to start the process under the guidance of NCA mentors.
However, PCB’s press release revealed explosive opening batsman Fakhar Zaman and rookie leg-spinner Shadab Khan, who recently returned from England as Champions, are expected to join the programme in the third week of July.
Here’s the list of 27 players, who will join the camp in NCA, Lahore:
In the form of openers Sami Aslam, Imamul Haq, and Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman will join the camp which would include fielding drills and batting practice in a bid to gauge their improvement.
The wicket-keeper batsmen, who will be in the two-month long camp are Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Hassan
Moreover, the camp will host highly talented Haris Sohail, Umar Amin, Usman Salahuddin, Asif Zakir and Umar Akmal, who has been struggling with his fitness of late.
The fast bowling department has Mohammad Irfan, Ruman Raees, Usman Shinwari, Sameen Gul and Mir Hamza.
Coming to the spinner list it includes Shadab Khan, Bilal Asif, Usama Mir, Mohammad Irfan and Mohammad Asghar, as slow bowling all-rounders include Mohammad Nawaz and Agha Salman.
Talking about fast bowling all-rounder the members include Fahim Ashraf, Amir Yamin, Ammad Butt and Hussain Talat.
Interestingly, Pakistan Cricket Board has chalked out the strict plans as the top brass has already revealed they won’t compromise on fitness which was further echoed by Men in Green coach Mickey Arthur in his latest interview after Umer was asked to pack for home when Pakistan was undergoing a conditioning camp at Edgbaston in May.
