After Hasan Ali’s animated gig at the Wagah border on Saturday, PCB chairman Najam Sethi has played down any seriousness into the incidence. The Border Security Force took note of Ali after the fast bowler “interfered” in the beating retreat ceremony on the Pakistani side.

Both the countries have a protocol which states the ceremony has to be conducted only by the BSF Jawans and the Rangers on the Pakistani side.

Ali entered the flag-lowering ceremony from the Pakistani side Saturday evening. He made his signature wicket-taking gesture towards the Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian audience.

In a video clip, Hasan was seen smiling wearing a red cap and being pictured by a Rangers soldier during the ceremony.

Sethi has shrugged off any importance to the incidence in a statement on Wednesday. He said,
“Cricket teams always go to the Wagah Border. Fast bowlers do what they do. I do not attribute any importance to it. I do not want to discuss otherwise you will bring politics into it,”
Sethi also took this as an opportunity to raise and later on added that the onus is now on BCCI to decide on the bilateral issues.

“We say it’s a binding contract, let them decide whether it’s a contract or not. We have challenged it. This question will be decided by the dispute resolution committee of the ICC. We will wait for the dispute resolution,”

The PCB has sought a $70 million compensation from India and has initiated dispute resolution proceedings against the BCCI.
