Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to take down the national contract of some senior players like Sarfaraz Ahmed, Mohammad Amir in the new contract which will be issued on Wednesday (13 May). It will be a huge blow for the players amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the source, Pakistan’s chief-selector and head coach Misbah-ul-Haq with CEO Wasim Khan has made the final list and sent it for approval to PCB chairman Ehsan Mani.

Source further informed that this step has been taken to add the new players who had done well in the past for the green army. Also, those senior players will be removed from the national contract who are not interested to play Test cricket.

“Wasim and Misbah met today and finalised the list and have submitted it to the chairman,” the source said.

“The idea is to encourage and reward the new players who have done well for Pakistan and to keep some senior players without contracts as they are not willing to play Test cricket,” the source said.

The source has confirmed that the new players such as Naseem Shah, Abid Ali, and Mohammad Hasnain will be given the new contracts in place of Wahab Riaz, Amir, Fakhar Zaman, and few others like Usman Shinwari and Hasan Ali.

As per PCB CEO, the contract is being announced early then its fixed period to ensure players that they would not be hurt financially by the ongoing global economic crisis. Normally the board issues the new contracts in July.

Meanwhile, Pakistan last hosted the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in March but the league was halted with the uprising crisis. The remaining international matches with Bangladesh was also suspended which was scheduled early April.
