In a desperate attempt to curb the spot-fixing menace in the country, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), on Thursday (March 23), agreed to work together on the spot-fixing case that rocked this year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL).
With the PCB and FIA producing their case findings separately, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had ordered them earlier this week to join hands and work together on the case.
The two bodies finally held the meeting and senior officials of the FIA and the PCB agreed to work together and assist each other in completion of departmental, legal and criminal proceedings against those found guilty of corruption.
As per the developments in the meeting, the PCB will provide all important documents and data related to criminal proceedings against corrupt elements to the FIA while the Investigating Agency will provide forensic and other related assistance to the cricket board for its tribunal and departmental proceedings.
Meanwhile, another decision taken during the meeting was that FIA’s ongoing proceedings will go ahead as usual but the criminal proceedings and registration of FIR will be done after the PCB concludes its inquiry.
Both parties will exchange all the relevant information to solve the case. Both the bodies will also work with other law enforcement agencies to wipe out corrupt practices from local tournaments. They’ll also request the Ministry of Interior to help in eliminating the menace of betting by directing Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to block betting websites in the country.
The Ministry has already barred the five suspects- Mohammad Irfan, Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif and Shahzaib Hassan- from leaving the country. It has also ordered investigations against the bookies involved in the spot-fixing case.
