The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to increase the number of players for each Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise from 20 to 21 and raise the player salary cap by USD 25,000.
The decision in the wake after the meeting between the board and all the PSL franchises held at the National Cricket Academy on Monday (November 13).

Meanwhile, the new player will have to be from Pakistan as the franchises have been asked to keep an eye on the ongoing National T20 competition and various talent-hunt programs. Measures to clamp down corruption in the league and strengthen the league’s anti-corruption efforts also got discussed.
The meeting was attended by Asher Schon (Multan Sultans), Nadeem Omar (Quetta Gladiators) Javed Afridi (Peshawar Zalmi), Atif Rana (Lahore Qalandars), Salman Iqbal (Karachi Kings) and Ali Naqvi (Islamabad United), and was presided by PCB chairman Najam Sethi.
“The meeting was briefed about ways to streamline talent hunt programs. A detailed plan will be chalked out in consultation with all franchise representatives to further improve the process of scouting new talent,” a PCB release stated. “Mr Sethi reiterated Pakistan Super League’s stance against anti-corruption and vowed to further strengthen the League’s anti-corruption efforts.”

“All franchises unanimously decided to increase the player salary cap by USD 25,000 allowing teams to pick a squad of 21 players for this season. The newly inducted players will be from Pakistan and may include players unearthed through talent hunt programs or top performers from the National T20 Cup taking place in Rawalpindi currently,” added the release.
Previously, the franchises were given a purse of USD 1.2 million. The franchises pick the players through the draft system from five different categories – platinum, diamond, gold, silver, and emerging. The draft for the forthcoming third edition of the league was recently done in Lahore with the likes of Chris Lynn, Imran Tahir and Mitchell Johnson being the star attractions.
