The Story

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) plans to host an award ceremony to honour three former captains of the Pakistan team in September, PCB Chairman Najam Sethi has announced on Tuesday. The ceremony will feature the likes of Misbah ul Haq, Younis Khan and Shahid Afridi.

Misbah ul Haq and Younis Khan retired from cricket this year during the series against West Indies on May 10.

The final Test was ordinary for Misbah and Younis, who other wise have a wonderful record as Test cricketers. In the first innings, Younis made 18 while Misbah went on to score his 39th Test fifty. In the second innings, both the players failed to make an impact with Younis making just 35 off 73 balls and Misbah only two runs off 14 balls

The board is also planning similar honours for some of the top cricketers as well to acknowledge their contribution to Pakistan cricket.

A farewell Ceremony for Shaharyar Khan

The PCB is also planning to host a farewell ceremony for former chairman Shaharyar Khan on Wednesday.

Shaharyar Khan’s three-year tenure as the PCB Chairman ended on August 4. The 83-year-old had clarified beforehand that he was uninterested to continue therefore making way for top contender Najam Sethi to become his successor who was elected unanimously in the customary election for which was held on August 9.

Sethi, who has been successful overseeing the Pakistan Super League, will serve as its 30th chairman and serve three years as the top official. Shaharyar’ tenure started on a controversial note but was sprinkled with great successes including Pakistan cricket team’s ICC Champions Trophy 2017 title in June 2017 and the achievement of top rankings in Tests under Misbah-ul-Haq’s captaincy.

“We plan to arrange a special award ceremony for former captains Misbah ul Haq, Younis Khan and Shahid Afridi,” said the chairman. “They served Pakistan for a long period and deserve appreciation.”

“We will honour and appreciate our top players and umpires in the same award ceremony to encourage them,” he said.
