PCPA Takes A Shot At PCA Ad-Hoc Members To Execute Lodha Reforms

The Punjab Cricket Players Association (PCPA) has suggested Punjab Cricket Association’s ad-hoc committee to implement the Supreme Court-led Lodha Reforms, in order to bring transparency, stability in the State Cricket Associations (SCA), as the recommendation also includes the national cricket body Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). “We have written to them many times, urging them to conduct the elections, but to no avail,” the secretary of PCPA Rakesh Handa was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Interestingly, both the factions had been facing a four month-long impasse which further included the top officials, as the association of players want to conduct free and fair elections owing to the recommendations put on the table by Lodha Committee at the first instance.

“Both authorities have taken note of our letters and a change in the association is imminent. Elections would be soon held,” Handa added.

PCPA which is headed by former Indian cricketer Bhupinder Singh Sr has asked the nine-member committee to bring the implementations to the fore suggested by RM Lodha Committee before being approved by the apex body.

According to the report, the recent discussion revealed the players association is looking forward to seeing the cricket body operate under the recommendations of the Lodha setup while revealing the organization would be satisfied to see the appointments being made as per the guiding principle of Lodha recommendations including fresh elections.

“We have also been writing letters to the Supreme Court-appointed CoA (Committee of Administrators) and the BCCI, apprising them of the way the association is being mishandled,” Handa maintained.

Interestingly, Bhupinder Singh, who was the chairman of Punjab’s senior selection committee, has featured in two One-day Internationals in which he claimed three wickets after making his 50-over debut against UAE in 1994, before featuring in his last international fixture against Pakistan at Sharjah, in the same year. Moreover, the ad-hoc board convener R P Singla was barred from attending the Special General Meeting (SGM of the BCCI) by the representative of the board.

Coming to the conclusion, Handa revealed the PCA is being driven by the influenced persons, as others are being neglected to take the stock of the situation while adding it’s the sorry state of affairs to see the association being run as an owned enterprise.

“The adhoc committee members don’t even have the courtesy to reply to our letters,” Handa maintained.

The PCPA as an association revealed they would work for the betterment of the women cricket particularly in the state while adding they are looking forward to the different opportunities – to give a new high to the women cricket after lauding the efforts of Mithali Raj-led and runners-up of the ICC Women’s World Cup India which further saw Punjab batter Harmanpreet Kaur giving best in England.

While expressing to become the part of the state association referring to Lodha Reforms, the PCPA has around 100 ex-first-class cricketers, who are supporting the alliance.
