Peter Nevill Lauds Australia’s New ‘Pay Deal’ For Gender Pay Equality In Cricket
The wicket-keeper batsman Peter Nevill has praised the efforts of Australian players for leading as an example, in the gentleman’s game owing to the fresh pay deal process which would also share the fair slice of the payments in favour of women cricketers in the country where cricket is a huge thing at the grassroots level.
“Cricket has now set the benchmark for Australian sport in terms of gender pay equity,” Nevill was quoted as saying by Canberra Times.
It’s pertinent to mention, following the fresh development women cricketers pay increased to $55.2 million from $7.5 million which in itself is a major victory for the female cricketers.
The 31-year-old Melbourne-born right-handed batsman Nevill says the Australia Cricketers’ Association struck a chord while raising a voice for the gender equality, in terms of the pay deal during the long standing impasse which has finally come to an end in the last week.
“The player group was so united, both male and female, state and international players, and it’s the first time everybody has been included in the one agreement which is fantastic,” Nevill added.
However, following the signing of fresh ‘modernized’ Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Cricket Australia head by James Sutherland and ACA is led boss Alistair Nicholson, Nevill believes it would bring desired results in the foreseeable future.
“It is a very positive result out of the MOU and I’m glad everyone can now, including the fans, focus on the upcoming cricket,” Nevill remarked.
The historic payment deal reached to a new high after both parties agreed to the terms and conditions after the dispute took an ugly turn which further witnessed 230 players were left jobless owing to the expiry of the agreement in June 2017 which was brokered in 1997.
“It’s pleasing to see that we’ve maintained what’s worked well between Cricket Australia and the players for the past 20 years and to see that modernised to an extent was good as well with a lot of focus on grassroots,” Nevill concluded.

Interestingly, the modernised payment model which is focusing on the grassroots level will further generate the staggering amount of $459 million in the payment pool for players including male and female cricketers.
Nevill, who made his international debut in 2015 against Australia at iconic Lord’s, has featured in 17 Tests for Australia and played nine Twenty20 Internationals.
The New South Wales batsman has amassed 468 runs in the longer format. He has smashed three fifties in 23 innings of a five-day game.
