The first aspect that India would be feared during Indian Premier League 2019 would be the fitness and injuries of the Indian Players. With the ICC World Cup 2019 around the corner, the major concern for the Indian National Cricket Team is about the fitness of the players. As a precautionary measure, BCCI asked Physio Patrick Farhart to look after the workload management of the players.

Regarding the same, the national physio will be in regular touch with the Physios of all the eight franchises during the course of the tournament. They will have a special look at some players, who are certain to play the world cup and also the players on the standby list.

It is extremely important for the players to stay fit:

The meeting between the eight franchise Physios and Patrick isn’t a new thing, as they would do that prior to the tournament every season. However, this time, they are handed with more work, as the fitness of the players is the must for the upcoming grand event.

One of the officials quoted that there wasn’t any discussion on a certain player or else anything related to workload management. However, he quoted that the fitness of the players is pretty important in order to see them perform well in the prestigious event.

“Every year before the IPL, the physios usually have a meeting. They discuss the overall plan for the season, the guidelines and anti-doping policies. This meeting also conveyed similar things. There was nothing in particular about the workload management,” one of the Board officials said.

They need to balance out things:

But it is understood that as a routine, Farhart will keep a track on the fitness levels of players. They will look after the players during non-match days as well.

“The World Cup nearing. It is extremely important for the players to stay fit. And also, ensure that they don’t pick up injuries. They need to balance out things even on the non-match days. That’s very important,” one of the officials said.

All in all, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out. Recently, in the press conference, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli also asked players to be smart enough while tackling workload during the tournament.
