England snatched an unlikely victory from the mouths of the India to emerge as the winners of the ICC Women’s World Cup for the 5th time in their history. The match saw a highly unanticipated turnaround as India were bundled out for just 219 after being 191/3 during the chase of 229 runs.
Seamer Anya Shrubsole was the wrecker in chief and caused the massive turnaround, snapping 6/46 in her spell of 9.4 overs. She outwitted the entire Indian batting order.
Starting from the crucial breakthrough with the wicket of Punam Raut, Shrubsole then added Veda Krishnamurthy, Jhulan Goswami, Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gayakwad to for the Indian choke after being in the driver’s seat. It was the sheer failure of the middle order and lower order that led to the loss.
Celebrations were, as expected wild and uncontrollable as the English ladies jumped on each other out of joy.
Congratulatory tweets are currently flowing in with all celebs, current and former cricketers praising the monumental efforts by the England Women’s team.
But, that being said, English journalist and banter enthusiast, Piers Morgan was in a totally different mood as he tried to pull his “buddy” Virender Sehwag with a tweet.
The delighted Englishman took advantage of the historic moment to mock Sehwag.
But Sehwag replied:
Me and all of India prouder even in this loss than you can ever be mate.We fought well &will only get better & stronger.
Enjoy for a change! https://t.co/Dv1gn2jpWn— Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) July 23, 2017
The two have an along entertaining history of creating controversies through the medium of tweets. Fans are now eagerly waiting for Sehwag to retaliate now as Morgan has landed his blow on the wittiness of the former Indian cricketer.
