West Indies team –
Leon Johnson (1/5)
He was brought in the team in place of out of form Rajendra Chandrika but Johnson too could not really do something special to justify his selection. He failed badly as an opener as he could not give a start to his team which they needed in both the innings.
Kraigg Brathwaite (2/5)
He played well in the first innings but could not continue his form in the second innings when it mattered the most. Poor star in the second innings was the main reason behind West Indies losing the game. He gets 2 points for scoring a half-century in the first innings.
Darren Bravo (3/5)
West Indies team had big hopes on him but he was busy in engaging in war with Rohit Sharma. He could have avoided that tussle with Rohit Sharma but he even went on to push him. Indian players plotted a plan against him and made the best effort to distract Bravo. Indian fielders were successful in their mission as Bravo was dismissed soon after that, Bravo’s wicket marked the downfall of West Indies innings.
Marlon Samuels (2/5)
He should be tagged as the most irresponsible batsman of the team as the way he got out in the second innings was ridiculous. He should have controlled himself and should have thought of the team instead. But he tried to imitate something he did on the previous delivery and got dismissed. Looking at his attitude for Test cricket, he does not deserve to be in the Test squad.
Jermaine Blackwood (1/5)
He made a drastic change in his batting style in the first innings as he batted with a strike rate of 23.25. It looks like his own style of batting is much better than this one as he was able to score few runs playing in that style. Batting slowly mounted pressure on him and he failed miserably in this match.
Roston Chase (2/5)
3 wickets and 12 runs, it’s the contribution of Roston Chase in this match. He disappointed in the second innings as all were expecting for a similar type of innings from him which he played in last Test match but he failed and was bowled by Ishant Sharma. It was seen that he was quite upset with the way he got out. He was disappointed with his dismissal which was visible on television.
Shane Dowrich (1/5)
The young batsman failed to do something special in the contest. There is not much to say about him and is batting. Ranking of 1 seems to be perfect as it matches with his performance in this match.
Jason Holder (0/5)
The captain of West Indies team failed to perform any of his roles. He failed as a captain, as a batsman and as a bowler. He deserves no points for his shameful performance in this match. It looks like the West Indies board has made a big blunder by giving him the reigns of the team. Darren Bravo seems to be more suitable for this role of a captain.
Alzarri Joseph (3/5)
The debutant made an early impact in the match by dismissing Virat Kohli as the first wicket of his international career. He continued his good form and went on to strike two more wickets in the match. He was underused in the second innings so it will be unfair to judge his performance in the second innings.
Miguel Cummins (4/5)
He deserves a perfect 5 points for his performance in the match but we are forced to deduct 1 point because umpire played an equal role in two of his wickets. Also, he missed the 10 wicket milestone in the game. That would have helped him to get full points.
Shannon Gabriel (2/5)
Just troubling the batsman is not enough as a bowler is judged by a number of wickets in the respective column. Again he was able to trouble the batsman but wasn’t able to convert that into wickets. This seems to be the biggest weakness in this big man.
