It is believed that with the burden of captaincy, there comes dip in the batting forms of the batsmen. Plenty of great batsmen have been inflicted because of this. Some of the instances can also be drawn from it. In this very article, we are to emphasize upon the poor performances of the captains. We are going to emphasize on the players with the maximum number of ducks in test cricket as captains. Here goes the list.
- Stephen Fleming – 13: The former Kiwi captain unfortunately tops this list. He was a great opening batsman for New Zealand but even the burden of captaincy was reflected upon his batting performance for a number of times. He was dismissed for NOT as many as 13 times during his tenure as a captain of the New Zealand team.
- Graeme Smith – 10: The former South African captain cum the legendary left handed batsman makes his name in this list too. During his tenure as the South African captain, South Africa struggled rarely but Graeme Smith did struggle with his form for a number of occasions.
- Mahendra Singh Dhoni – 8*: The captain of the Indian team has struggled to put things right of late. India has been struggling to perform well in overseas tests since 2011 and in the series against Australia, India is struggling immensely after losing each of the first two tests. Also, the captain himself has struggled to find his form on a number of occasions. Recently, he was dismissed for a duck in the second innings against Australia.
- Mike Atherton – 8: The former English captain also struggled at times. His performance was also not considered upto the mark during his tenure as the captain of the England team and as a captain too, he was not rewarded with much of success.
- Hansie Cronje – 8: The former South African captain, who was later suspended for lifetime for a match fixing scandal, also makes his name in this list. He was a great captain but was there were instances where he failed to perform big. South Africa were successful on many occasions but on a number of times, Cronje did not manage to put up a brave effort.
