On the back of yet another fine batting display by the ever fluent Ajinkya Rahane, the Rising Pune Supergiants kept their hopes alive of staying in the hunt. It was a well-paced knock by Rahane, who kept his cool throughout the chase and ensured that he was around to see his team through. Skipper MS Dhoni too had a productive outing with his big hits in the middle.
People were in for a surprise when JP Duminy walked in for the toss instead of Zaheer Khan. Daredevils played with a relatively second string side, as the first-choice players were rested. Despite losing wickets frequently, the Daredevils scraped their way to 162. For Pune though, Rahane’s stability in the middle was enough to win them the game.
In the post-match presentation, skipper MS Dhoni admitted that he was pleased with his bowling. “The overall bowling effort pleased me the most. It felt nice we restricted them to 160. With a ground like this and with the way they are young, I think we did really well. There were quite a few hits from the batsmen but I think the death bowling was good. We are a bit uncomfortable in the middle, but I think it’s a well-earned victory for us. The wicket did slow a bit in the second innings,” said Dhoni.
Ajinkya Rahane was named the Man of the Match for his unbeaten knock, and he was pleased with his performance. “Really happy the way I batted today. We decided one batsman, who gets set will carry the innings through. I’m just looking to keep it rally simply. If I stay till 6 overs, I try to keep the score ticking and that’s my strength. I don’t try too many things and if I stick to my strength I’m sure I’ll be able to do well in the future games as well,” said Rahane.
