PM Modi Acknowledging Our Efforts Was Special, Says Mithali Raj

The Story

India women’s team won the country’s heart after reaching the ICC Women’s World Cup in England. The Mithali Raj led side finished as the runners – up in the tournament after a heart breaking loss to hosts in the all-important game.

The Women in Blue came close to creating history at Lord’s but fell short, as England pulled off a highly dramatic victory and caused an unlikely upset. India, after being 191/3 at one stage during a chase of 229, was shocked by seamer Anya Shrubsole, who snapped a six wicket haul to bundle out for just 219.

Roaring welcome

Despite the loss, the country was proud of the achievements earned by the ladies. Social media was full of praises and media lauded their efforts. Things became more special when Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the players.

Recalling the moment, captain Mithali Raj revealed that it was a matter of pride for all of them. She was speaking at NDTV’s Youth For Change in the national capital.

India’s path to the finals was paved out after wins over New Zealand, and defending champions Australia in the semi-finals. Mithali herself was in great form and produced some notable performances.

His best knock came highly important game against New Zealand in Derby where she scored 109 to take her side into the semi-finals with a 186-run victory. Other noteworthy performances came against England in Derby in the tournament were 71 against, a 53 run knock against Sri Lanka in Derby and 69 against Australia in the semi-final in Bristol.

Mithali is currently very busy attending different events. Speaking about her busy schedule after returning from England, Mithali says that she is yet to properly unpack her luggage.

She also admitted that the entire team is enjoying the attention.
